This unit is designed to introduce one of the basic guarantees in the Bill of Rights, freedom of speech, and some of the complexities of legislative and judicial decisions regarding freedom of speech. It also creates opportunities for discussion of current issues, like book banning and hate speech, as well as mis- and disinformation in election campaigns.
